Close to 700 fans watched the Kings emerge victorious in a back and forth game on Sunday night against the El Paso Sun Kings with a final score of 9 - 8. Beginning the seventh they were up by one, but gave up 2 runs to trail. In the bottom of the inning Will Campbell drew a walk, Taylor Stone doubled and Justin McDavid received and intentional pass to load the bases. Carlos Martinez was hit by a pitch to put Campbell across the plate, and Stone scored on a wild pitch. Justin McDavid relieved starter Tyler Johnston after one batter in the seventh and got himself out of a jam by striking out the Sun King batter for the third out with bases loaded. In Thursday's game of the four day tournament the Copper Kings pounded the Arizona Dawg Pound team 26 - 2 in five innings. The game was more or less over at the end of the first when the Kings sent 18 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs. Cody Downing went all five innings (mercy rule invoked) to notch the win, striking out 9 and giving up 1 walk and 5 hits. On Friday night the Douglas Bro's (filling in for the Sierra Vista All Stars) put up a good fight and were leading 6 - 4 at the end of 6 ½ innings. The Kings bats came alive as they scored 6 to put away the game. Carlos Lopez took over the mound for Ryan Canek (7 KO's) in the seventh with runners on second and third. The Bro's batter took the second pitch all the way to the wall, but it was caught for the final out. Saturday brought another pretty good game against the Davis Monthan Flying Mustangs. Taylor Stone turned in a 4 hit (5 strikeouts) shutout and the defense backed him up with 3 double plays. Offensively Cody Downing scored 3 of the 5 Copper Kings runs and Will Campbell batted in 2 to put the game out of reach in the sixth.
