The Friday night opener against the Tucson Outlaws saw the Copper Kings grab a 9 to 2 lead by the end of the fifth inning. Coach Bill Moore is an avid fan of his team running the bases and the young men did a great job of turning hits and walks into runs. Lead off hitter Dominic Gamboa managed to turn a hit and an error into a round the bases trip in the first, and stole home in the fifth. The relief pitching turned out to be not so good, though, and the Outlaws scored 6 runs in the 8th to get close at 10 - 9. The Copper Kings managed to get another run and allowed one more by the Outlaws for a final score of 11 - 10.
