A third of a loaf was better than no loaf at all for the Bisbee Copper Kings, who dropped the first two games of last weekend's Pacific Southwest Baseball Tournament before defeating the Tucson Nationals 16-7 Sunday afternoon in Phoenix. The Copper Kings scored eight runs against Tucson in the first inning of Sunday's game played at Grand Canyon College in Phoenix. Right handed Tyler Johnston, who went five innings for Bisbee, was credited with the win. Calen Pennington knocked in nine runs for the Copper Kings, going three for five and hitting two grand slam home runs. Bisbee High School grad Thor Acuna and Buena High alum Miguel Trujillo each went two for three for the Copper Kings. It was Bisbee's third straight win over the Nationals this season. Sunday's win followed losses in tournament games Friday and Saturday. The Copper Kings fell to the Casa Grande Cotton Kings Friday by a score of 5-1. Bisbee lost to the Mesa Garden of Gears Saturday night, 5-2. Brandon Orr, pitching in his first game for the Copper Kings, gave up five runs and struck out eight Mesa batters in a losing effort. The Bisbee boys of summer, now sporting a record of three wins and two losses, will get a chance for payback this weekend when they host the Garden of Gears in a four game home series at Warren Ballpark. The start time for the two doubleheaders, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, is 4 p.m. Sunday's single home game pits the Copper Kings against the Sierra Vista All-Stars. Start time for that game is 12 noon. For more information about the Copper Kings call 732-7325 or visit www.bisbeecopperkings.com
